OTTAWA (AP — Canadian Joannie Rochette won the women’s short program at Skate Canada on Friday. The 22-year-old Rochette had a personal best score of 64.74 points, unveiling a new routine to George Gershwin’s “Summertime.” Fumie Suguri of Japan was second with 57.92, while Caroline Zhang of the United States was third at 53.28.

Ousted Olympic hurdler charged with steroid use (AP)

Former Greek Olympic hurdles champion Fani Halkia was charged with steroid use, an offense that carries a penalty of two years in jail. Halkia’s coach, George Panagiotopoulos, was also charged Friday by a Greek prosecutor with administering banned substances and faces up to three years in prison and a fine of $26,070 if convicted.

Packers sign QB Rodgers through 2014 (AP)

The Green Bay Packers made a long-term commitment to quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Friday, signing the first-year starter to a contract extension through 2014.
